November 2010: NZCOSS Virtual World
November 2010: Pike River Tragedy
December 2010: ComVoices 5 years on
July 2011: What is happening to our communities?
We are a few days away from the general election and I will be sitting with friends watching nervously. I feel in my heart that it might be closer than we expect, but whoever wins this election, it will have a huge impact on our sector.
Instead of the downside, lets look at the upside. No matter what, we will be faced with challenges and the opportunity to invigorate ourselves with new ways of working. There are many changes in the wind, and they are not all negative.
We are all pulling together and I feel a strength of support from colleagues around us here in Wellington. I know from the forums and newsletters, I hear about, or read, that the same is happening in places all around our country.
We have the new financial standards coming in. I would like to encourage you to read the papers on this that you can find on this link.

Hopefully these new standards will make reporting requirements easier for smaller organisations, and tighter for larger organisations with huge budgets. And that is how it should be. Please let me know if there are any difficulties when these standards come in.
I have just attended a conference called the 2011 NFP Sector conference. I think a lot of it was valuable, and I am sad that many of our members would not be able to attend this because of the cost. (Thanks to COSS D, for passing on their free tickets to myself and Jocelyn Frances O'Kane from WelCoss).
Please remember in 2011 we are holding the NZCOSS conference, this year in Taupo. The costs are much lower than most conferences, although I must warn you that with funding restrictions lately, we may not get as much financial support as we have in previous years to allay costs. However I already have in my mind a great subject for conference, and some excellent speaker ideas. Watch this space, more to come in the new year.
Remember Jill and I and our wonderful Executive Committee are here for you all. Keep checking the website, we do try to update it often. Please enjoy your holidays with your whanau and friends, and lets look forward to a new year where we all will be refreshed and ready to get back into our vital and essential work within our communities
